We assessed operations at various Retail Outlets across India to summarize them in general as under: -
a) A Daybook is maintained at every Retail Outlet, which carries all the transactions viz. DIP Readings, Meter Readings, Testing, Sales, Credit Sales, Purchases, Payments, and Receipts etc. in a day. The Daybook reflects Cash-in-hand and Stock-in-hand at the Closing.
b) These transactions are then posted to various Books viz. Daily Sales And Stock Register (PG Register), Cash Book, General Ledger and Stock Register.
c) Then, Parties are issued Bills against Credit Slips issued by them as per Billing Cycles.
d) The payments are received against Receipts and transactions are posted to accounts.
e) Then, various statutory statements viz. Statement of an Account, Trial Balance, Trading Account, Profit & Loss Account and Balance Sheet etc are reproduced from Basic Books of Accounts.
